Nordic Road Association (Nordisk
vegteknisk forbund - NVF) is an organisation which promotes cooperation
and development within the road and traffic sector in the Nordic
countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and the Faroe
Islands). NVF has several technical committees, and the ITS committee
published the first edition of the "Road Transport Informatics
Terminology" in 1997. This first publication had about 230 terms and
definitions in 5 languages. A major update was done, and in 2002 version
2 was released with 490 central concepts for the ITS sector.NVF-ITS are now working on version 3 which will be released at the end of 2010.
The NVF ITS Terminology Dictionary had originally 5 languages (English, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Finnish). However, Icelandic has at a later stage been included as a sixth language. The NVF ITS Terminology Dictionary has also been widely accepted outside the Nordic countries. It has been translated to several other languages (among them German, Dutch, French, and others), and the dictionary is also adopted by the world-wide road organization PIARC.
However, it is not allowed to copy, reproduce, spread or in any way change the dictionary, its content or software without a permission from NVF ITS Committte.

This is the very first edition of this software, and it is made to be presented at the NVF Congress Via Nordica in Helsinki in June 2008. We know there are some errors and flaws, and there will be updates and improvements. Please visit www.nvf-its.org to check for any updates.
